2023 AFCON: Nigeria Super Eagles Hit with Second Injury Blow!

Nigeria Super Eagles has been dealt a heavy and critical injury blow ahead of 2023 AFCON, MySportDab reports.

Nigeria are among top nations tipped to leave their mark and possibly win 2023 AFCON. Nigeria last won AFCON in 2013 under the tutelage of late indigenous manager Stephen Keshi.

 

The Super Eagles will be hoping to go all the way for their 4th AFCON title, and end a 10 years for the trophy.

We reported earlier head coach Jose Peseiro has released his 25-man squad for the tournament with high-profile stars plying their trade in elite leagues in Europe making the cut.

Most pundits have favored the Super Eagles to go all the way and win the tournament. Now, the team’s chances is on the balance with series of injury blows.

Days after reports of Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury, another fresh injury blow has been reported among the 25 names that was listed for the tournament.

BBC journalist Owynn Palmer-Atkin has revealed Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is sidelined ahead of the tournament.

 

Wilfred Ndidi missed Leicester City’s Sky Bet Championship 4-1 home win against Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium due to the injury.

Owynn Palmer-Atkin says;

“Enzo Maresca tells me that Wilfred Ndidi has picked up an injury. That’s why he was absent today.”

“Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are set to join up with Nigeria tomorrow. Enzo stressed that neither are currently fit enough to play.”

Nigeria will kick off their AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14, 2024 with Nigeria fans hoping the duo will be fit to travel with the team for the tournament.
