Cape Verde have continued in their prolific start to their 2023 AFCON campaign with another group stage victory, MySportDab reports.

The Blue Sharks breezed pass the Eagles of Mozambique to consolidate their place at the top of the group and also become the first team in the tournament to book their ticket for the next round of the competition.

It was a tricky tie for the two teams who kicked off their AFCON campaign with an optimal performance. Cape Verde stunned the Black Stars of Ghana to get off with a winning start while Mozambique surrendered all three points at the dearth against record-winners of the tournament Egypt.

The Eagles were leading 2-1 in stoppage time before Mo Salah converted a last-gasp spot-kick to salvage a draw.

Against the Blue Sharks, the Eagles faced an uphill task weathering the odds to salvage even a point from the game despite an overwhelming opening performance against Egypt.

Cape Verde dominated proceedings as the game kicked off, making frantic efforts to take the lead. After a marathon of pressure, the Blue Sharks capped their dominant performance with a goal from Bebe.

The goal was enough to send the 2023 AFCON dark horses into the break with a lead. Mozambique did little to contain the pacey and speedy offensives of their opponents and paid dearly conceding another goal in the 51st minute.

Eighteen minutes after Mendes’ goal, Lenini came up clutch for Cape Verde again, scoring their goal to put the game beyond Mozambique.

The Blue Sharks still dominated proceedings despite the three-goal. A nervy final minutes ensued as Mozambique attempted to land a consolation goal all to no avail.

The game ended with Cape Verde cruising to an emphatic 3-0 victory to go top of Group B with maximum points and book their ticket for the next round of the tournament
