England have defeated Malta to continue in their prolific run in 2024 Euro Qualifiers, MySportDab reports.

The Three Lions hosted the European underdogs at Wembley in what turned out to be a drab and dour encounter.

Despite losing to the European giants, Malta received a pat in the back for their bold and resilient display throughout the game.

The put up a great performance despite creating less chances compared to their more dominant hosts who control proceedings throughout the game.

England were undoubtedly the better side but they struggled to weather the grit and determination of the visitors to leave with at least a point from Wembley.

England were quick to find the back of the net early in the first half but it was a scrappy own goal by Pepe after Foden’s pressure.

After taking trailing the hosts by a lone goal, Malta did little to mount a response but were still putting up a solid performance with possession and strong defensive display.

England came across a slew of chances to double the lead but could not add to the tally as the first half of the game fizzled out.

In the second half, the Three Lions still struggled to find the back of the net but were held off by the visitors.

However, late in the 75th minute, Harry Kane was able to break the goal deadlock and double the lead for the home side.

Declan Rice then added to the tally by netting the team’s third goal but the goal was chalked off after VAR check.

The match ended with England grabbing a 2-0 win over a Malta.
