Nigeria’s Super Eagles hitman, Victor Osimhen, faced an unfortunate setback during the national team’s recent friendly match against Saudi Arabia, which ended in a 2-2 draw, MySportDab reports.

The injury news was confirmed by Super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Peseiro, in a post-match interview. Osimhen was substituted early in the second half due to injury concerns, and the extent of his injury will be assessed through an MRI scan to determine his availability for the upcoming match against Mozambique on the 16th.

Peseiro emphasized the strong communication and coordination between the national team and the clubs regarding player injuries. He explained, Our responsibility is to control the health of our players. He is a fantastic player. Napoli needs him, and we need him also.

Peseiro stressed the importance of evaluating Osimhen’s condition before making any decisions about his participation, as the club holds a significant stake in his well-being.

When questioned about Osimhen’s readiness for Monday’s encounter against Mozambique, Peseiro indicated that player welfare is paramount. He stated, At this moment, it is my opinion, will I go and put in a player with an injury? A month’s injury, or even two? It is better to put it in his mind now.

Peseiro acknowledged the club’s pivotal role in the final decision-making process, considering their investment in the player.

In the friendly match itself, Peseiro guided Nigeria to a 2-2 draw against his former employers, Saudi Arabia, held at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao in Portugal.

The Super Eagles are now gearing up for crucial World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations tournament on the horizon. As Osimhen’s health undergoes evaluation, the Nigerian team will await the MRI results to determine their star striker’s availability for the upcoming challenges.
