Nigerian international striker Paul Onuachu has embarked on a new football chapter with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor after sealing a season-long loan move from Southampton, MySportDab reports.

The towering striker experienced a challenging eight months on England’s South Coast, prompting his transfer to Turkey.

Onuachu initially joined Southampton on a deadline day transfer from KRC Genk, where he had enjoyed considerable success.

However, his time with the Saints saw limited opportunities to lead the attack, resulting in frustration. Despite making 11 Premier League appearances for Southampton, Onuachu was unable to find the back of the net.

Regrettably, his contributions couldn’t prevent the club from relegation to the Championship.

As the 2023-24 season commenced under new manager Russell Martin in the Championship, it became clear that Onuachu’s role in the squad was diminished.

He failed to feature in any league matches and made just one substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup.

Although there were reported interests from clubs in Germany, a move didn’t materialize for the 29-year-old striker. Similarly, discussions with his former club Genk did not result in a transfer.

Trabzonspor, a Turkish side seeking to bolster their squad in the final days of the transfer window, secured Onuachu on loan from Southampton.

This acquisition followed their signing of Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal, reflecting their commitment to strengthening the team.

Onuachu joins a list of recent Nigerian players who have represented Trabzonspor, including John Obi Mikel and Anthony Nwakaeme.

The loan move to Trabzonspor presents an opportunity for Paul Onuachu to reignite his career and demonstrate his goal-scoring prowess in a new football environment.

As he joins the Turkish outfit, the Nigerian striker aims to make a significant impact and contribute to the club’s objectives for the season ahead.
