Lionel Messi previously shocked fans and pundits when he announced that the 2022 World Cup would be his last.

The smug statement of retirement made football fans sober; given the rare and magical skills Lionel Messi brings to bear on the pitch.

However, in an interview on Direct Sports TV, Lionel Messi seemed to have reversed his stand, saying he made the statement of retirement based on logical issues of age but may change his mind based on his fitness after the competition.

Lionel Messi first made his World Cup debut in 2006 as a rising youngster. The 2022 World Cup will be his 5th World Cup.

Earlier in 2021, he led Argentina to their first major international trophy and will be hoping to replicate the same in Qatar as favorites.

Lionel Messi was pictured alongside fellow teammates, including the likes of Paredes and Angel Di Maria, arriving at the team’s hotel.

It will be a historic career journey for the PSG star if he caps all his achievements so far with a World Cup trophy.

Argentina will kick off their World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on 22 November before taking on Mexico and Poland.
