Manchester United remain linked signing for Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, MySportDab reports.

United had previously rejected the idea of spending big money in January, but with Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit many things have changed.

The football legend left Manchester United on mutual terms with the club after his shocking interview.

Cristiano Ronaldo leaving means Erik ten Hag now has Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as strikers for the rest of the season.

So, Gakpo is now seen as a possible replacement in the attack.

The 23-year-old plays as a winger for PSV Eindhoven, but has impressed at the World Cup playing as a striker with two goals.

Speaking to The Athletic about a potential transfer in the January transfer window, Gakpo said:

“I’m currently very busy with the Dutch team. I’ll see what happens after the World Cup. In football, a lot can happen.

“My mind is on the World Cup. The news is nice to hear but I’m focused on doing my best. I’m not surprised about rumours. I prefer news about the team, so I’m not too concerned with that.

“I know my abilities but it’s always a challenge to play at the highest level. I have not gotten there yet, I can improve many things.

“I have scored two goals this World Cup. But that’s not important. I can improve and be much better to to help the team.”
