South African women beat Nigeria 1-2 to claim all three points in the WAFCON 2022, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
It was a solid first-half encounter from both teams, who could barely make any clear opportunities in the game, which started with both teams doing a lot.
South African women started well, dominating play as they moved forward in numbers to score the opening goal, which didn’t come immediately despite all the attempts.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria were good enough to make sure they defended well thanks to excellent coordination as they could attack and defend in numbers.
Assisat Oshoala had an opportunity of making it count on multiple occasions. Still, she was quickly closed down as the Bayana Bayana side knew the danger of giving her room to operate.
Nothing happened as they entered the final few minutes, which saw the first half ending with Nigeria 0-0 South Africa after 45 minutes of football, leaving them with nothing good.
Second Half Report
The second half opened up with so much pace coming from both ends as they attempted to make something happen as early as possible.
Nigeria Women were the better of both teams, but still, they couldn’t make anything happen out of all the opportunities created against their opponent as it carried on.
South Africa took the lead in the 61st minute through a goal from Seoposenwe, which was beautifully finished beating the goalkeeper as they made it 0-1.
They responded once again, scoring another goal in the 63rd minute of the encounter through a goal from Magaia which made things 0-2 against the Falcons.
It continued looking good for Bayana Bayana until Rashida Ajibade scored in the 90th minute plus added time to make the scoreline 1-2 with few minutes left to be played.
The match came to an end with Nigeria 1-2 South Africa which saw the Super Falcons facing defeat in the opening match of the WAFCON 2022.
