On the other hand, the Los Blancos were the noble avengers who eliminated a similar English side, Chelsea, to qualify for the next round.

In a thrilling encounter, they eliminated the defending champions after an extra-time goal by their prolific striker and French international, Kareem Benzema.

Real Madrid qualified after a 4-3 aggregate win over Chelsea while City managed a 1-0 aggregate win over Athletico Madrid.

The two giants will be taking the seemingly Spain vs England UEFA Champions battle to the next level on Wednesday at 17:00 GMT.

The match can be seen as a clash of titans as both teams are defending Champions in their respective domestic leagues.

They are also currently leaders of their respective leagues and are hoping to defend the title as the season gradually comes to an end.

The match will indeed be a tie-breaker as both teams have shown great competitiveness in their previous UEFA Champions League encounters.

In their six encounters, there have been two draws, two wins and two losses for both teams, and they have conceded and scored an equal number of goals – 7 goals each.

Manchester City has not lost at the Etihad to the Los Blancos in their last three encounters. They have won 1 and drew 2.

The English Champions have also remain undefeated at the Etihad in UEFA Champions League since a 2-1 loss to a French side, Lyon, in 2018.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, is entering this game with an intimidating away form.

Replicating the same feat against a high-flying Blue side of Manchester may be an uphill task with the Tiki-taka legend Guardiola at the helm of affairs.

City will hope to make it to the finals and possibly clinch the trophy for the first time, while Madrid has won the competition 13 times.
