BREAKING! Nigeria Striker Odion Ighalo Dropped From 2022 AFCON Squad

Odion Ighalo has now been dropped from the Nigeria AFCON 2022 squad today, MySportDab reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation has now confirmed that striker Odion Ighalo will not play at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.

NFF released a statement today confirming that by the former Manchester United player will not play at the 33rd AFCON.

The official statement read:

“Forward Odion Ighalo won’t be joining the squad due to issues with his Saudi Arabian club.”

Ighalo was expected to score the goal for Nigeria as Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu have both withdrawn from the tournament.

Now, this is the reality for Nigeria Super Eagles fans.

MySportDab understands that Ighalo was not released by his club Al Shabab due to to contract issues.

Before he signed for Al Shabab in 2021, Ighalo agreed to sign a clause that he prohibits him from  international duties.

Prior to his Al Shabab transfer, Ighalo announced his retirement from the Nigeria national team.

A few months later, he was recalled by Super Eagles former Coach Gernot Rohr.

However, Tyronne Ebuehi and Germany based Jamilu Collins will to join the Nigeria national team.

The Super Eagles are in Group D alongside Sudan, Egypt, and Guinea Bissau.

Eguavoen’s team will start their AFCON 2022 campaign on January 11th against Egypt at the Roumde Adjia Stadium.
