Chris Smalling may be set for Premier League return amid interest coming in from Newcastle United, MySportDab reports.
The former Manchester United defender is currently playing for AS Roma who have Jose Mourinho as their manager.
Chris Smalling has been exceptional for the Italian side but is still not known if a move would be possible at this point having seen him become a regular.
Nevertheless Newcastle United will be putting together a package which could see them lure the England International away from Roma.
The defender recently sealed a move to Italy after a loan move away from Manchester United where he was struggling for regular playing time.
Since he joined Roma he has been one of their outstanding players so far and an exit looks unlikely to happen unless something good is coming from the Premier League side.
Newcastle’s ongoing pursuit of another centre-half has led them towards former Manchester United star Chris Smalling, according to claims coming from Tuttomercatoweb.
The England international defender is currently working with Jose Mourinho at Roma and also doing well this season.
But he may be lured back to the Premier League from Serie A by an ambitious outfit in the North East.
A move can’t be quickly pushed off the table as Newcastle United can offer him a better contract knowing how old he is and nearing retirement time.
The Premier League side recently signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and they are still putting works together for more signings this January.
