Football Pundits and Fans have now slammed Harry Maguire’s goal celebration for England Vs Albania in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier, MySportDab reports.
Pundit Roy Keane believes that the celebration was ’embarrassing,’ and Ian Wright told him to ‘just play the game’.
The Manchester United defender after nine minutes, as England went on to a 5-0 half-time lead against Albania.
Maguire raced away after his goal to celebrate by cupping his ears, and appeared to be in response to his critics following his poor performances for Manchester United this season.
Speaking at Half-time on ITV, Roy Keane said: ‘He placed his hand on his ear. That’s not different from shutting the critics up and that’s embarrassing.
‘He’s been horrible over the last few months for Manchester United. He thinks because he scored yesterday that he would shut his critics up. Very Embarrassing.’
However, After the match, Maguire insisted that he was not trying to silence his critics with the celebration.
‘No, the celebration wasn’t directed at no one. It was a knee slide celebration, I did my hands on my ears,’ he said.
‘I am the Manchester United captain so I know better to expect criticism when the team isn’t performing well enough, I expect that but the celebration was not directed at no one.’
Meanwhile, Football fans were quick to slam Maguire’s celebration on social media.
Another Twitter fan wrote: ‘Harry Maguire should only celebrate like that if he was not at fault for poor goals at Manchester United this season.’
A fan said: ‘Harry Maguire has appeared to magically silence his critics with that goal against Albania, what a joke.’
It is obvious that Harry Maguire’s form for England is far better than at Manchester United so far this season.
Maguire was one of England’s best players as they reached the Euro 2020 final in the summer.
