Nigerian footballer Samuel Kalu collapsed on the pitch during a French Ligue 1 match for his club Bordeaux, MySportDab reports.
Thankfully, Kalu made a shocking recovery and played for several minutes before he being substituted.
The 23-year-old Nigerian collapsed just five minutes into Bordeaux’s French Ligue 1 match against Marseille.
There was instant panic on the pitch as both players requested immediate medical attention for Kalu.
The Marseille and Bordeaux players formed a human shield around Kalu as he was added to on the pitch by the medical staffs.
This is similar to what happened to Christian Eriksen in Demark’s Euro 2020 opening match against Finland.
However, Kalu was able to quickly recover and get up again.
His teammates helped him to walk off the pitch with an ice pack on his head.
Surprisingly, Kalu returned to carry on playing despite what happened.
But, a few minutes later, Kalu was substituted for Remi Oudin.
The Nigerian was given a standing ovation by fans in the stadium after he tried to play despite his collapse.
The cause of his collapse remains unknown but it is not the first time he has collapsed during a football match.
In 2019, Kalu collapsed during the Nigerian team’s training at the African Cup of Nations back.
