Chelsea Coach Frank Lampard has warned his players of the pressure they face in their Champions League matches this season, MySportDab reports.

Lampard has a different expectation for his Chelsea team this season in the Champions League after a poor performance last season.

The Blues passed the group stages last season but faced Bayern Munich in last-16.

Bayern thrashed Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate to go and win the Champions League.

However, Frank Lampard now has a very different squad this time.

Brazilian Thiago Silva has now joined among other summer signings such as Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz.

Chelsea youngsters such as Reece James, Tammy Abraham, and Mason Mount now have more experience in the European competition.

Chelsea are expected to reach the knockout stages this season after been drawn into a group of Rennes, Sevilla, and Krasnodar.

But they start the new Champions League campaign with a difficult test against last season’s Europa League Champions.

Frank Lampard will make some changes to the team for the 3-3 draw against Southampton over the weekend.

However, the Chelsea boss hopes his players understand the task when they face Sevilla tonight.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Frank Lampard said: “The players that we had last year, and talking about the youngsters in the Bayern Munich matches because of the strong opponent, it was like a learning curve.

“That’s how the Champions League is; it’s the most important club competition in the world of football.

“They want to do better for it, they want to improve this year. We shall see how much they have learned.

“Yes, some of the players we signed have more Champions League experience than some.

“We have young set of players so it’s important we learn every lesson possible because the Champions League is ruthless.

“You have to be focused because of the quality of teams you’re up against, and as we also start against Sevilla.”

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is unlikely to be available for the match, which means Willy Caballero or Kepa Arrizabalaga will start in goal.

But, Hakim Ziyech is fit to start his first Chelsea match of the season against Sevilla.

Chelsea Vs Sevilla Kick-off?

The Chelsea Champions League match starts at 8pm tonight.
