Manchester City are ready to offer Lionel Messi a two-year contract to sign him from Barcelona, MySportDab reports.

According to Cadena Ser, City are happy to sign Messi and help them win the Champions League.

Cadena Ser claim that that Manchester City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain is currently in Barcelona working on striking a deal for Messi.

The idea of a reunion with his former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola would certainly be interesting for Lionel Messi.

But Manchester City still have a lot of work to do to sign him.

If sign Messi successfully, City are open to extending his contract for another two years.

Messi remains in a legal battle with Barcelona and failed to resume for the first two days of pre-season training.

The 33-year-old believes that he was free to leave thanks to a clause included in his contract.

However, LaLiga have stated that Lionel Messi is still a Barcelona player and he has a contract which expires in June 30, 2021.

La Liga also insisted that any club planning to sign him must pay his £630m release clause.

Messi is also facing a £1.1m fine and a suspension for some weeks after missing the start of pre-season preparations.

Messi’s father Jorge is due to meet with the Barcelona board and try to resolve the situation.
