Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has described former international teammate Victor Osimhen as ‘the future of Nigerian football’, MySportDab reports.

Ighalo has impressed everyone so far at United since signing a six-month loan deal in January.

The 30-year-old has now scored four goals in eight matches for the club since his move on loan from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

And while there’s “no offer yet” from United to extend Ighalo’s loan at Old Trafford, the club have been linked with his close Friend Victor Osimhen.

According to French Newspaper Le 10Sport, Osimhen became a priority target for United Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

MySportDab understands Victor Osimhen joined Lille from Belgian side RSC Charleroi and has scored 18 goals in 38 matches in all competitions.

And although Osimhen could replace Ighalo at United, the former Watford striker still praised his fellow Nigerian.

“I talk to Osimhen, he’s a cool boy, young and a good guy,” he told Elegbete TV.

“We talk alot not exactly every day, but I give him advice almost every time.

“He’s definitely the future of Nigerian football. He’s our future, he’s going to do very well in football.

“I advise him to stay calm, continue working hard and the guy is already a celebrity, you know.

“He travelled to watch our match against Club Brugge in Belgium because it’s closer to where he stay, he told me he was would show up so I gave him my jersey, and he also brought his own jersey for me, too.

“Osimhen is a very nice boy, we’re from the same hood. I love him alot, he’s very hard-working, he has a huge future and the mentality of a winner, that’s why I love him. He has a lion’s heart.

“I have always loved him, I just want him to continue working hard, he’s going to set many new records across Europe and Nigeria.”

As for Ighalo’s future at Manchester United, the Nigerian insisted he is waiting to finish the season and then see what happens.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had suggested that he wants to keep Ighalo but his contract with Shanghai Shenhua expires in December 2022 and the Chinese club don’t appear ready to lose their key man.
