Paris Saint-Germain Sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that striker Edinson Cavani has asked to leave the club, MySportDab reports.
Manchester United are in desperate need of a new forward after Marcus Rashford’s injury and are now linked with Cavani.
Cavani was previously linked with a move to Atletico Madrid during this January transfer window and was expected to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
But the Uruguay international has seen his playing time reduce since PSG signed Mauro Icardi during the summer from Inter Milan.
The 32-year-old has played just ten games in Ligue 1 this campaign, starting only four of those.
As a result of his lack of playing time, he has scored just twice in the French league, far from his 14 goals tally at his point last season.
MySportDab understands that PSG’s all-time record scorer is ready to leave, despite Leonardo confirming a bid from Atletico Madrid.
“Edinson Cavani has demanded to leave,” Leonardo confirmed.
“We are working on the situation.
“There was an offer from Atletico Madrid but we rejected it.
“I don’t know what it’s going to be.”
PSG Coach Thomas Tuchel also hinted that Cavani is likely to leave.
He said: “I am not sure if Edinson Cavani will be here after January.”
That leaves Manchester United the chance to come in and swoop for the experienced forward.
The Red Devils fans are demanding the club sign a striker after missing out on Erling Braut Haaland earlier in the window.
Top scorer Rashford is now to miss three months of action due to injury and United struggled without him on Sunday at Anfield.
