OFFICIAL: Barcelona Sign Antoine Griezmann From Atletico Madrid (Photos)

Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of forward Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, MySportDab reports.

Griezmann has been a long-term target for Manchester United and but the clause could now price them out of any future deal.

The World Cup winner, 28, has signed a five-year deal with the Spanish giants after they activated the £107m clause in his deal with Atleti.

"FC Barcelona has paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atl├ętico Madrid," a statement read on their official website.

"The player will sign a contract with his new club for the next five seasons, through to 30 June 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros.

"We will shortly be publishing the full schedule for the presentation of Antoine Griezmann as a new member of the Barca first team."

United can almost certainly forget about signing Griezmann now despite tracking him for the past few years.

He becomes Barcelona’s third signing of the summer following their £60m capture of Frankie de Jong from Ajax while right-back Emerson joined from Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.

They are also expected to try and re-sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain but players will probably need to be sold so they can fund a deal that could cost them up to £400m.

Philippe Coutinho remains surplus to requirements while Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic and Malcom could all be available.

Griezmann Saga!

Shortly after Barcelona announced the signing on Friday, Atletico responded by saying his buyout clause should have been 200m euros (£179m) - the value at the time they believe Griezmann and Barcelona began negotiating.

"Griezmann, represented by his lawyer, has appeared at the headquarters of the Professional Football League to unilaterally terminate the contract that links the player with Atletico, with Barcelona having deposited the sum of 120m euros in the name and on behalf of the footballer," they said in a statement.

"Atletico believes that the amount deposited is insufficient to meet its rescission clause, since it is obvious that the commitment of the player and Barcelona was closed before the aforementioned clause was reduced from 200 to 120 million euros.

"Atletico believes that the termination of the contract happened before the end of the last season due to facts, acts and demonstrations made by the player, and therefore has already initiated the procedures it has deemed appropriate to protect their rights and lawful interests."

Atletico reported Barcelona to Fifa over an alleged illegal approach for Griezmann in December 2017.

Griezmann then rejected an offer from Barcelona last year and revealed his thought process in a documentary called The Decision.

But earlier this month Atletico accused Barca and Griezmannof disrespectand claimed the La Liga champions talked to their forward in March.

They also ordered the player to report for pre-season.

In a statement, the Madrid club expressed their "strongest repulsion for the behaviour of both, especially Barcelona".
