Todd Monken

Todd Monken is no longer just an offensive coordinator. On January 28, 2026, the Cleveland Browns named him their new head coach, replacing the fired Kevin Stefanski, capping a coaching career that spans more than three decades and includes stops at nearly every level of football, from small college programs to back-to-back national championships at Georgia to one of the most statistically dominant offenses in recent NFL history with the Baltimore Ravens.

Todd Monken Biography

Todd Monken

He was born February 5, 1966, in Wheaton, Illinois, the son of Jo Ellen, née Stewart, and Bob Monken, who worked as a football coach at nearby Lake Park High School in Roselle, Illinois. Coaching runs deep in the family.

Bob Monken passed away in August 2024 and is remembered in coaching circles as a member of one of America’s foremost football coaching families.

Todd Monken has two brothers, Tony and Ted Monken; Ted served as head coach at St. Charles East High School and West Chicago Community High School before becoming defensive coordinator at Glenbard South High School.

Todd is also a cousin of Jeff Monken, the current head coach at Army. Todd attended Wheaton North High School before playing quarterback at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he was a three-year letterman and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1989.

He later earned a master’s degree in education leadership from Grand Valley State University in 1991 and remains a member of the Knox College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Career

Monken Career

Todd Monken’s coaching path began as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State from 1989 to 1990, followed by a similar role at Notre Dame from 1991 to 1992.

He spent seven seasons at Eastern Michigan from 1993 to 1999, working his way up from defensive backs and wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He went on to coach running backs and wide receivers at Louisiana Tech from 2000 to 2001, then served as pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Oklahoma State from 2002 to 2004, followed by a similar role at Louisiana.

Todd entered the NFL in 2007 as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receivers coach, a role he held through 2010.

He got his only head coaching job to date at Southern Miss from 2013 to 2015, taking over a program that had finished 0-12 the previous season.

He returned to the NFL as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016 to 2018, then held the same role with the Cleveland Browns in 2019.

He moved back to college football as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Georgia from 2020 to 2022, helping lead the Bulldogs to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances and back-to-back national championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, the program’s first titles since 1980.

Baltimore Ravens Offensive Coordinator

The Baltimore Ravens hired Monken as offensive coordinator in 2023 after firing Greg Roman. His first season immediately paid off, as the Ravens reached the AFC Championship Game.

However, they lost 17-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs, a defeat that drew heavy criticism of Monken for abandoning what had been the league’s top-ranked rushing attack during that game.

His 2024 season became one of the most statistically dominant offensive seasons in NFL history: the Ravens led the league in total offense at 424.9 yards per game, rushing offense at 187.6 yards per game, red zone touchdown efficiency at 74.2 percent, and yards per play at 6.8, becoming the first team in NFL history to record both 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in a single season.

His final season in Baltimore, 2025, was complicated by injuries to two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, who missed four games and played through others banged up, with the offense finishing 16th in total yards and 11th in scoring, still respectable but a clear step down from the record-setting year before.

Across his three Ravens seasons, his units ranked sixth, first and 16th in total offense, and fourth, third and 11th in scoring offense.

Cleveland Browns Head Coach

Monken’s comments following the end of the 2025 season were widely read as confirmation that he would not return to Baltimore.

On January 10, 2026, he interviewed for the Cleveland Browns‘ head coaching vacancy, a franchise he had already worked for as offensive coordinator back in 2019.

The Browns hired him on January 28, 2026, replacing Kevin Stefanski, a two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year who was fired on January 5, 2026, after a 5-12 season and six years in charge.

Monken enters the job with 34 years of total coaching experience, including eight years of NFL experience and four years specifically coordinating NFL offenses prior to his hire.

Wife – Terri Monken

Todd Monken Wife

Todd Monken is married to Terri Monken. The two have one son, Travis Monken, who has followed the family’s coaching tradition, working as a student football assistant at Oklahoma State University before becoming an offensive analyst at Purdue University.

Todd Monken Net Worth

Todd Monken Net Worth

Todd Monken’s net worth is estimated at $5 million, built from his more than three decades of coaching salaries across college football and the NFL.

As a head coach, his compensation is expected to rise substantially from his Ravens coordinator salary, which had been reported in the range of $2 million dollars, reflecting the significant pay jump that comes with an NFL head coaching position.
