England national team Coach Gareth Southgate has now said that Harry Maguire is the best defender at Manchester United, MySportDab reports.
Manchester United have Varane, Lindelof, Maguire and Bailly as their centre-back options currently.
Maguire struggled for Manchester United last season and was heavily criticised by fans and pundits.
Now, Coach Ten Hag wants to sign a new defender this summer to provide more competition.
Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres have both been linked with a move to United in recent weeks.
Maguire has had to be left on the bench under interim manager Ralf Rangnick due to his poor form.
However, for England, Maguire has been a fantastic player and showed his quality both at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020.
England Coach Southgate has now made a shocking statement about Harry Maguire.
He said: “There’s no doubt a big change at Manchester United and that has clearly affected everything.
“Maguire is still United’s best centre-back. I’m sure the coach will watch matches back from before and get his own view.
“Although, people believe that he is at a certain level, but for us he’s one of our top two best centre-backs for England.
“Harry and John are our best duo.”
On Maguire being booed by England fans, he added: “I still can’t understand the boos from fans when his name was read out.
“I still don’t understand it. I spoke to him after the match, but he did not let it affect him.”
