Her father’s name is Yuri Sharapova. He worked in construction and the Siberian oilfields before going on to work as his daughter’s dedicated tennis coach and travel companion during her early career.

Her mother’s name is Yelena Sharapova. She was a former athlete with a background in sports, and later joined her family in the United States after a period of separation due to visa restrictions.

At the age of six, her talent was noticed by tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who encouraged her family to seek professional training in the United States.

When Sharapova was seven years old, she moved with her father to Florida to train at the famous Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

Life was not easy for the family in the beginning. They arrived in the United States with very little money and had to make many sacrifices to support Maria’s dream of becoming a professional tennis player.

Her hard work quickly paid off as he became one of the brightest young talents in women’s tennis and turned professional in 2001 at just 14 years old.

Within a few years, she was already competing against the best players in the world. Despite how it looked for her, the road wasn’t easy in any way, being a young girl from Russia trying to make a name.

Maria Sharapova became a global sensation in 2004 when she won the Wimbledon title at only 17 years old. In the final, she defeated Serena Williams, who was the defending champion.

The victory made her the first Russian woman to win Wimbledon and instantly turned her into one of the biggest stars in sports. After her Wimbledon success, Sharapova continued to rise.

In 2005, she became the first Russian woman to reach the No. 1 ranking in women’s tennis. She would spend 21 weeks as the world’s top-ranked player during her career.

Her Grand Slam success continued over the years as she won the US Open in 2006 and followed it with victory at the Australian Open in 2008. These wins established her as one of the leading players of her generation.

One of the greatest achievements of Sharapova’s career came in 2012 when she won the French Open. The title completed her Career Grand Slam, meaning she had won all four major tournaments.

He had won Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open, and the French Open. Only a small number of women in tennis history have achieved this feat all through their careers.

She won her second French Open title in 2014, bringing her total Grand Slam titles to five. Throughout her career, Sharapova won 36 WTA singles titles and built a reputation as one of the toughest competitors in women’s tennis.

She also enjoyed success outside Grand Slam events. She won the WTA Tour Championships in 2004, helped Russia win the Fed Cup in 2008, and earned a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Her career record of 645 wins and 171 losses shows how consistently successful she was for nearly two decades. She also earned more than $38 million in prize money during her playing career.

She returned to professional tennis in 2017 and even won the Tianjin Open later that year. However, recurring injuries made it difficult for her to regain the level that had once made her the world’s best player.

In February 2020, Maria Sharapova officially announced her retirement from professional tennis. After nearly two decades in the sport, she decided it was time to move on to a new chapter of her life.
