Morgan Rogers has today signed his contract with Chelsea following the conclusion of his medical which took place in London after his return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup with England national team.

Following weeks of intense speculation and competition from rival Premier League clubs, attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers completed his medical examinations in London today, Monday.

The milestone agreement sees the 23-year-old make the high-profile switch from Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth a staggering £117 million.

This massive financial commitment shatters multiple historical benchmarks within English football. The £117 million package officially establishes Rogers as the most expensive British player in football history, surpassing the previous high set earlier in the summer.

Furthermore, the fee eclipses past acquisitions to become Chelsea’s outright club-record signing. The structural terms of the transfer reflect long-term planning by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

Rogers has put pen to paper on a six-year contract running until June 2032, which includes an option for an additional twelve months that could extend his stay through 2033.

According to Fabrizio Romano he confirmed the papers are signed saying: “Morgan Rogers has signed his six year contract as new Chelsea player! £117m move from Aston Villa, completed.

“The agreement includes an option to extend the contract until June 2033.

“Chelsea pay £117m fixed fee without any add-ons to Villa”.

Industry insiders note that Middlesbrough, his former club, is set to net a substantial windfall exceeding £20 million from a lucrative sell-on clause included when he initially departed for the Midlands.

Behind the scenes, the race for the England international was fiercely contested. Arsenal had positioned Rogers as their primary attacking target for the window, with manager Mikel Arteta actively pushing to bring the playmaker to north London.

However, Chelsea moved with decisive speed once the opportunity arose. A pivotal turning point in the negotiations was the direct involvement of new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish tactician presented the player with a clear, compelling sporting project and a distinct tactical role within the squad. Drawn by Alonso’s vision and the prospect of linking up with close friend Cole Palmer, Rogers made it clear that his preference was west London.

The England international arrives at Chelsea fresh from an exceptional campaign with Aston Villa, where he played an instrumental role under Unai Emery. His contributions last season included 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, steering Villa to UEFA Champions League qualification and European silverware by lifting the Europa League.

He also enhanced his reputation on the international stage, featuring prominently for England during their run to a third-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Under Alonso’s tactical setup, the versatile attacker is anticipated to operate primarily from the left flank while cutting inside, allowing Cole Palmer to maintain his creative freedom through central areas.

Rogers’ unique blend of physical driving runs, close control, and composure in the final third provides the Blues with a dynamic dimension as they aim to re-establish themselves among the elite contenders for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
