Liverpool Part Ways with Arne Slot: Andoni Iraola Emerges as Next Manager

Liverpool Football Club officially announced that it has parted ways with manager Arne Slot after poor title defense despite them making the top four.

The decision, confirmed earlier this morning, brings an immediate end to the Dutchman’s tenure at the helm of the Merseyside giants following a comprehensive post-season review by Fenway Sports Group.

The news comes as a shock to many, as there was a widespread expectation that Slot would remain in his role despite a challenging second campaign.

Having taken charge in 2024, Slot enjoyed a dream start to life at Anfield, famously securing the Premier League title in his debut season, a feat that cemented his place in club history.

However, the 2025/26 season proved to be a difficult hurdle. The Reds finished the most recent campaign in fifth place, failing to defend their league title or secure any major silverware.

While the team did successfully qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, the drop-off in performance and high expectations from the club’s recent heavy investment in the squad ultimately led the hierarchy to conclude that a change in leadership was necessary to keep the project moving toward its long-term objectives.

In a brief but respectful statement, Liverpool expressed their gratitude for the Dutchman’s service, noting, “Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield.”

With the managerial position now vacant, all eyes have turned to the club’s Andoni Iraola to succeed him. Reports emerging throughout the day indicate that the Spaniard has become the clear favorite to step into the Anfield dugout.

Fabrizio Romano did confirm the Spanish coach as the next man to take over saying: “Andoni Iraola, set to become the next Liverpool manager as revealed earlier today.

“The negotiations will move forward quickly to get it done with formal steps but Liverpool decision made.

“Iraola will be the next manager.

Iraola’s reputation has soared following his impressive tenure at Bournemouth, where he recently guided the Cherries to a sixth-place finish and secured Europa League qualification.

His tactical acumen and high-intensity style of play have made him one of the most sought-after managers in Europe, with clubs like Crystal Palace and AC Milan previously being linked to his services.

However, Liverpool’s opening presents a significant opportunity that is widely expected to supersede other offers.

Andoni Iraola is expected to become the next Liverpool manager as the club already made their decision to part ways with Arne Slot despite early claims of him staying on.
