Arsenal 3-0 Fulham: Gyökeres Brace Sends Gunners Six Points Clear

Arsenal tightened their grip on the Premier League trophy with a commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday evening at the Emirates Stadium.

A masterclass from Swedish sensation Viktor Gyökeres and a resurgent Bukayo Saka ensured the Gunners moved six points clear of Manchester City at the summit of the table, leaving the visitors with no answers to a relentless first-half.

From the opening whistle, the atmosphere at the Emirates was electric. Mikel Arteta’s side, clearly buoyed by the prospect of extending their lead at the top, played with a high-intensity press that suffocated the Fulham midfield.

The deadlock was broken in just the 9th minute. Bukayo Saka, making his 200th Premier League start and his first since returning from an Achilles injury, showed no signs of rust.

He skipped past Fulham’s Antonee Robinson on the right flank before fizzing a low, inviting cross into the six-yard box.

Viktor Gyökeres anticipated the movement perfectly, tapping home to record his 20th league goal of a stellar campaign in the 9th minute.

Fulham attempted to stabilize through the creative efforts of former Gunner Emile Smith Rowe, but Arsenal’s backline marshaled by William Saliba and Gabriel remained largely untroubled.

As the first half progressed, the chemistry between Saka and Gyökeres became the focal point of the afternoon as they pressed so hard.

In the 40th minute, the roles were reversed. Gyökeres dropped deep to collect the ball, turning his marker before threading a pinpoint pass into the path of Bukayo Saka.

The England international cut inside and unleashed a trademark curling finish past Bernd Leno into the bottom corner in the 39th minute.

It was a poetic moment for the winger, marking his milestone appearance with a goal that felt like a statement of intent for the title run-in.

The knockout blow arrived in first-half stoppage time. Leandro Trossard, a constant threat on the left wing, delivered a high, looping cross toward the back post.

Gyökeres rose highest, guiding a clinical header beyond Leno to make it 3-0 before the interval. With a three-goal cushion, Arsenal shifted gears in the second half, prioritizing control over raw aggression.

It allowed Arteta the luxury of managing his squad’s fitness ahead of their crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. Bukayo Saka was withdrawn at halftime for Noni Madueke to preserve his fitness.

Arsenal almost added a fourth when Riccardo Calafiori saw a header strike the crossbar following a corner, and Gyökeres was denied a hat-trick by a sprawling save from Leno in the 64th minute.

Young talent Max Dowman earned a 13-minute cameo late on, further highlighting the positive mood around the club. Fulham’s best chance fell to Raúl Jiménez, who saw a stinging effort saved by David Raya.

The Cottagers spent most of the half chasing shadows as Arsenal’s midfield duo of Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi dictated the tempo.

The match finished with the Gunners making sure they kept their 3-0 lead against their London neighbors who had nothing to offer all through 90 minutes.

The victory is more than just three points; it is a psychological hammer blow to the chasing pack. With only three games remaining in the season, Arsenal sit on 76 points, six ahead of Manchester City who have 2 games in hand.

For Fulham, the defeat leaves them comfortably in 10th place, safe from relegation but likely out of the running for European spots.

After the match, Viktor Gyökeres reacted over his team performance in a game which they needed to win to extend their points on top of the Premier League table.

Gyökeres said: “I think both the performance and result was important. We controlled the game very well.

“At this stage we have to win the games that are left and we showed today we can have a good performance and get the three points.

“We always go into games believing we are going to play well and create a lot of chances. Today we did that and we enjoyed it.

“We’ve never stopped believing and we’re not going to. We will keep going. There’s still a lot to play for and it’s onto the next one.

“It’s been a good week. We’ve got some good results. We’re on a good path and we have to stay there.

For Arsenal, the focus now shifts from domestic dominance to European glory, as they prepare to host Atletico Madrid following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
