Man City and Arsenal Are Heading for a Photo Finish. Goal Difference Could Settle the Title

Manchester City’s crucial victory over Arsenal may have shifted momentum in the Premier League title race, but it has not decided the destination of the trophy just yet, MySportDab Reports.

Pep Guardiola’s side now sit firmly in contention, just three points behind the leaders with a game in hand, and their experience in navigating high-pressure run-ins has naturally made them favourites in many eyes.

The narrative that the race is already over overlooks several key factors that suggest this battle is far from settled.

City’s recent form, while strong, has not been flawless. Dropped points against West Ham and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks highlight their vulnerability, and extending their current winning run to eight straight victories would still represent a significant challenge, even for a team of their pedigree.

More importantly, even a perfect finish may not guarantee the title. If Arsenal win all five of their remaining matches, both teams would end the season level on 85 points. In that scenario, goal difference could become the decisive factor, raising the stakes across every remaining fixture.

At present, the margins are incredibly tight. Arsenal hold a slender advantage in goal difference, while City’s extra game offers them an opportunity to swing that balance. This could force both teams into a more aggressive approach, not just chasing wins but looking to secure convincing scorelines.

Despite their recent defeat, Arsenal showed enough at the Etihad Stadium to suggest they remain firmly in the race. Mikel Arteta’s side created high-quality chances, hit the woodwork twice, and pressed City relentlessly, recording their highest number of pressures in a Premier League match this season.

Arteta emphasised his team’s intent after the game, insisting they had come to win, but ultimately pointed to inefficiency in both penalty areas as the deciding factor.

Arsenal’s fixture list could yet prove decisive. All five of their remaining games come against teams in the bottom half of the table, a category in which they have excelled this season. Their strong record in those matches, combined with a favourable run of home fixtures, provides a clear pathway to maximum points.

City, meanwhile, continue to demonstrate their attacking firepower, with players like Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku, and Rayan Cherki delivering consistently in recent weeks. Their defensive improvement has also been notable, conceding just once in their last several matches.

With both teams capable of winning every remaining game, the title race could come down to the finest of margins. Goal difference, rarely decisive in modern campaigns, is now a genuine possibility.

As the season enters its final stretch, the priority for both sides remains simple: win every match. But in a race this tight, how they win may prove just as important as the results themselves.
