Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan secured her country’s first medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, claiming silver in a dramatic women’s 100m hurdles final in Tokyo, MySportDab Reports.
The world-record holder was narrowly beaten by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who delivered a career-defining performance to take gold.
Kambundji clocked an astonishing 12.24 seconds, a new Swiss national record, to edge out Amusan by just five hundredths of a second. Amusan, who holds the world record of 12.12 set in 2022 and was defending her world crown, finished in 12.29 seconds after a strong late surge but could not close the gap.
The result denied Amusan back-to-back world titles but ensured Nigeria celebrated its first podium finish of these championships. It was also a reminder of her consistency at the elite level, as she added another global medal to her growing collection.
The United States claimed bronze through Grace Stark, who crossed in 12.34 seconds, while teammate Masai Russell finished fourth with 12.44. Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska and Bahamian star Devynne Charlton shared fifth place in 12.49, both posting season’s bests.
Jamaica’s Danielle Williams took seventh in 12.53, and the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser completed the lineup in 12.56.
For Amusan, the silver medal represents both pride and unfinished business. While she fell just short of another golden moment, her achievement reinforces her place among the world’s best and keeps Nigeria firmly in the medal conversation as the championships continue.
