Liverpool have confirmed plans to build a permanent memorial at Anfield in honour of former forward Diogo Jota, following his tragic death in a car accident on July 3, which also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva, in Zamora, Spain, ,MySportDab Reports.
Since the heartbreaking news, supporters have flooded Anfield and Molineux—where Jota played for Wolves between 2017 and 2020—with an outpouring of tributes including scarves, shirts, flowers, and heartfelt messages.
In a historic move, Liverpool have permanently retired Jota’s No. 20 shirt across all levels of the club, including the academy and women’s teams, marking the first time in the club’s history that a player has been given such an honour.
The club announced that a permanent sculpture will be erected outside Anfield, crafted using recycled items left by fans. Floral tributes will be composted and used in flower beds across club sites, including Anfield and the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.
Throughout the 2025-26 season, Liverpool players will wear a “Forever 20” patch on their shirts in tribute to the beloved Portuguese forward. During the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, players will wear a special patch bearing Jota’s name and number.
A temporary area of reflection is also being set up at Anfield to allow fans to continue paying their respects.
Liverpool’s tribute began with a pre-match ceremony ahead of their 3-1 win over Preston on July 13, as the football world continues to mourn the loss of a talented player and cherished teammate.
