Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reacted to the team’s Champions League semi-final loss to PSG on Tuesday night, MySportDab reports.
Arsenal lock horns with the Ligue 1 champions in the first leg of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Emirates.
A first 20 minutes of an underwhelming performance cost them dearly. Ousmane Dembele scored in the fourth minute to give PSG a deserved early lead and the goal was enough to condemn the home side to a defeat.
In the second half, Mikel Merino thought he had netted the equalizer for the Gunners with a beautiful header from Declan Rice’s free-kick only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.
It ended with the Premier League side losing by a lone goal and facing a huge task to overturn the deficit next week in Paris.
However, Mikel Arteta believes his team still has a chance to weather the odds and qualify for the final. Speaking after the match, the Spaniard said it’l was just half of the two-legged tie and his side still made it to the final.
“It’s half-time and we have a big chance to be in the final”.
“You want to be in Champions League final then you need to do something special… then we are going to need to do something special in Paris,” he said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners will return to action on Saturday at home against Bournemouth in the Premier League before a trip to Paris for the second leg of theUCL clash on Wednesday.
