Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed the club’s decision on the likelihood of signing PSG loanee Marco Asensio permanently in the summer, MySportDab reports.
The Spanish forward has been in the form of his life since joining the Aston-based side on a short-term six-month loan till the end of the season.
He has emerged as the team’s top performer since the move, scoring three goals in two Champions League matches and two in four Premier League appearances.
The impressive tally has drawn the attention of the Aston Villa hierarchy with reports of moves to make his deal permanent.
However, while such reports are just tentative and not enough to assuage uncertainties on the future of the player at the Premier League club, Unai Emery has cleared the air.
Speaking after Aston Villa’s 3-0 home victory over Club Brugge in Champions League round-16 second leg, the Spaniard said the club are considering a permanent deal for the player but nothing can be assured at the moment.
The former Arsenal and PSG added that a potential permanent deal for Asensio will depend on his performance but the club is happy with him.
“It depends. of course we are happy with him”.
“We are protecting him because he’s not feeling 100%… he wanted to start the match but I decided to protect him,” he said.
MySportDab understands there is no buyout clause attached to Asensio’s loan deal with Aston Villa. However, GiveMeSports reports that PSG are ready for a permanent transfer exit for the player but will demand €15m as fee.
Asensio has played both as a right winger and central attacking midfielder for Unai Emery and is tipped to make the Spaniard’s attack in the long-term due to his impressive performances.
At the expiration of his loan tenure with Villa, he will have a year remaining in his PSG contract with the Ligue 1 open to a sale instead of losing him for free in 2026.
