Arsenal produced a strong second-half performance to beat Lille 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League at the Emirates Stadium to claim an important three points.
Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka scored the goals as Mikel Arteta’s team secured another important European victory to continue their impressive run this season.
The Gunners struggled to find the net in the first half, but three goals in eight minutes settled the match which was already looking like a difficult night for them.

Arsenal started the match with more possession as they looked to control the game in front of their home supporters. However, Lille defended well and made it difficult for the hosts to create clear chances during the opening stages.
Noni Madueke was one of the Gunners most dangerous players on the pitch. His attacking runs helped create opportunities for Bruno Guimaraes and Mikel Merino, but neither player could find the back of the net.
Guimaraes missed an early chance after a move down the right, while Merino failed to make the most of an opportunity from close range. The host also came close through Eze, whose effort forced Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer into a save.
Lille thought they had taken the lead when Ayase Ueda found the net with a beautiful finish. However, the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR check, allowing the host to escape without conceding.
Just before half-time, Özer spilled a shot from Guimaraes but recovered quickly to stop Viktor Gyokeres from reaching the loose ball. Despite the Premier League side creating the better chances, the teams went into the break with the score at 0-0.
Arsenal continued to dominate after the restart, but Lille remained difficult to break down. Guimaraes appealed for a penalty after going down inside the box, but the referee waved play on and VAR did not intervene.
Arteta then prepared to introduce Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz as the Premier League Champions searched for a breakthrough in the encounter.
Before the changes were made, Timber finally broke the visitors resistance in the 64th minute. Madueke supplied the ball into the penalty area, where Timber controlled it brilliantly before lifting a right-footed finish over Özer.
The goal gave them the lead they had been looking for and changed the mood inside the Emirates Stadium. They scored again in the 67th minute after Lille lost possession in a dangerous area which made it 2-0.
Bukayo Saka collected the ball on the right and passed it into the middle for Eberechi Eze, whose left-footed shot deflected past Özer. Saka then completed the scoring in the 71st minute with a stunning finish which made it 3-0.
Odegaard played Havertz through on the right side of the penalty area, and the German forward sent a pass across goal for Saka to finish into the far corner.
The three substitutes made an immediate impact, helping Mikel Arteta turn a tight contest into a comfortable victory. They had further chances to extend their lead as the match carried on.
Eze was denied by Özer after Saka’s cross created another opening, while Guimaraes later chose to shoot from distance during a promising four-against-two attack. The Lille goalkeeper saved his effort.
The visitors also threatened when Demba Bakwa’s shot was blocked by Ezri Konsa after a move down the right. In the closing stages, the away side introduced Olivier Giroud, who received a warm reception from the home crowd.
The Premier League also brought on teenage midfielder Max Dowman for Eberechi Eze, giving supporters another glimpse of the young talent.

Kai Havertz received a yellow card in the 90th minute after catching the goalkeeper while pressing following a clearance. Lille’s goalkeeper had already restarted play, but the referee booked the Arsenal forward for the challenge.
The visitors player, Mathieu Goffi was also booked in the 81st minute for a foul on Eze. The London side ended the match with a 3-0 result which extended their winning run to 12 matches in all competitions.
The match also carried an emotional moment as the Premier League side paid tribute to former club life president Ken Friar, who died aged 92. The players wore black armbands in his memory during the game.
Arsenal will be pleased with the clean sheet and the impact of their substitutes, although their missed chances in the first half showed there is still room to improve.
For Lille, the defensive effort kept the match close for more than an hour, but costly mistakes after the break proved decisive. However, the French side won’t worry much as they know it could have gone much worse for them.
