It was a disaster come to an end for the Super Falcons of Nigeria after losing against South Africa in their FIFA Women’s World Cup playoffs match 2-1 in Morocco.

The WAFCON 2026 made more history as Nigeria’s Women’s team failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time despite being a 10-time Champions of Africa.

Both national teams came into the pitch looking to grab the playoffs ticket which was the only consolation after failing to make it into the next round of the WAFCON.

South Africa looked better as they dominated play and did well enough to make sure they had control of the encounter as things progressed.

There was no much of goal to goal action as both teams looked very careful with everything they were doing on the pitch.

It was more of a tactical match where both managers made sure they blocked any openings that their opponent could use against them in the game.

The Super Falcons failed to make anything much despite going close on a couple of occasions. However, they couldn’t make any shot on target compared to their opponent.

Both teams pushed on until the first half came to an end with the scoreline staying 0-0. There was a lot of work needed to be done before they both resumed for the second half.

The game resumed with the Banyana Banyana pushing more until they broke the deadlock in the 56th minute through a wonderful finish from Kgatlana which made it 1-0.

It wasn’t a nice one for the Falcons as they looked poor unable to make anything much for themselves while the encounter carried on into the one hour mark.

Jane scored another goal in the 77th minute of the encounter which made sure it was 2-0 with little left to play between both teams for the night.

Things turned a bit bad in the additional minutes as Jane was shown a red card which gifted the Super Falcons a penalty that was scored by Christy Ucheibe.

Unfortunately for the Nigeria Women’s national team, they couldn’t do much as South Africa claimed a 2-1 victory after 90 minutes of action played.

The full-time whistle carried a shocker as the Super Falcons of Nigeria for the first time failed to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup that will take place in 2027.

Banyana Banyana celebrates with joy as they grab the needed consolation after crashing out of the WAFCON 2026 against host Nation Morocco during the quarterfinal.
