FIFA has slammed sanctions on the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the DR Congo national team for spectator misconduct and other irregularities during the CAF 2026 World Cup Playoffs final between the two countries in Morocco, MySportDab reports.

FIFA investigative panel indicted Nigeria fans for throwing objects at DR Congo players during the tensed clash in Morocco. As penalty, the Super Eagles have been hit with a 1,000 Swiss Francs.

The panel also found the DR Congo fans on the erring side for pointing laser lights on Nigeria Super Eagles players when they were about to take their penalty kicks during the shoot-outs.

As penalty, the Leopards have been fined with a heavier 5,000 Swiss Francs which is expected to be remitted to the FIFA account from the country’s football governing house.

Earlier, FIFA cleared the Leopards of DR Congo of breaching FIFA regulations after Nigeria petitioned the world’s football governing body to investigate alleged breaches of such regulations, claiming the Leopards fielded ineligible players for the tensed clash.

DR Congo are now expected to represent Africa in the inter-continental playoffs and are close to ending their decades-long absence of the world’s most prestigious football competition.

Meanwhile, Nigeria have now failed to qualify for the World Cup in the past two editions of the tournament, marking a new low in the country’s football.

They however atoned for the World Cup setback by putting up another standout performance in the 2025 AFCON, defeating Egypt to clinch the bronze medal.
