Liverpool manager Arne Slot is apparently unshaken after the team collapsed to a heavy Champions League defeat to visiting PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, MySportDab reports.
PSV Eindhoven defied the odds and stunned the Premier League champions with a shocking 4-1 victory.
Dominik Szoboszlai thought he had brought the Reds back into the game after he cancelled out Ivan Perisic’s opener but three unanswered goals in the second half condemned them to their third consecutive defeat.
Guus Gil and Couhaib Driouech led the rout for the visitors in the second half, with the latter scoring a late brace to silence the Anfield crowd.
Notably, the Premier League champions have come under stern scrutiny by the English media after the shocking defeat but head coach Arne Slot appears unmoved and firm amidst speculations that his job could be under threat.
Cutting a relaxed figure in the press conference room after the game, Slot shrugged off the Anfield heartbreak, insisting he is safe and OK.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK. I have got a lot of support from above. It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory, of course, but if you are not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked,” he said.
“I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around,” he added.
Liverpool have now lost nine of their last 12 games across all competitions and this includes wide-margin defeats in their last three games.
Slot had a stellar debut spell in the Reds’ dugout last season, leading them to their first Premier League title in six years, but the team hasn’t met expectations so far this term.
Despite the dismal recent run, he is understood to have the backing of the club’s hierarchy. However, his job is likely to come under severe scrutiny in the coming weeks if results don’t improve.
