Man United Confirm Update On Sekou Kone After Horror Head Injury

Manchester United have given an update concerning Sekou Kone after he was taken off during their game against Tamworth, MySportDab reports.

The 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital after suffering a worrying head injury. He collided with a Tamworth player during their game on Wednesday night during a corner kick.

The Malian Under 21 international had initially returned to his feet after falling to the floor but was quickly told by medical staff to remain down so he could be assessed appropriately.

Koné was treated on the pitch for around 15 minutes and after the half-time whistle had been blown, the 19-year-old Mali youth international was carried off on a stretcher with a mask on his face.

This led to the suspension of the under-21 Group A National League game at the Lamb Ground. It was reported that a replacement ambulance would be needed and due to the delay, the match had to be suspended.

Kone joined United from Malian side Guidars FC in a deal worth just over £1m last summer. He is yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils but has been named in the match-day squad three times.

United have issued a statement stating that the defensive midfielder is conscious and is responding well to treatments.

“Manchester United’s National League Cup game at Tamworth was abandoned close to the end of the first half”, the club reported.

“The tie was halted due to a head injury suffered by Reds midfielder Sekou Kone, inside his own box, and the youngster was taken off on a stretcher.

“We can confirm Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital, as a precaution, for further checkup,” the statement reads.
