Chelsea have made a shock move to bolster their goalkeeping options heading into the next campaign, MySportDab reports.
The Blues stunned naysayers with an impressive landing in the just-concluded campaign, clinching the UEFA Conference League title and qualifying for Champions League with a fourth-place finish.
The impressive run has been one of their best campaigns in recent years for the team and they are hopeful of staying at the top of the ladder with more reinforcements for the next campaign.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the London club have made a shock move to add another top-rated shot-stopper to their goalkeeping options.
The targeted new goalie in question is AC Milan and France’s first-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
From the report, the Blues have contacted AC Milan to inquire about the availability of Mike Maignan and are ready to make what will be a shock swoop for the player.
Mike Maignan has a year left on his €4.5million-per-year deal with AC Milan. He turned down an extension proposal by the club, elating interest from top clubs in Europe.
Sources close to the club revealed the bone of contention between the two parties has been on his new wage offer. AC Milan reportedly wanted to only offer an additional €1million increase in his annual salary but he wanted more.
Chelsea are aware of this contract renewal deadlock and are hopeful of leveraging it to lure the French goalie to Stamford Bridge.
Maignan is also said to be positive about Chelsea and could be open to joining the club if club terms are settled.
His potential arrival at Stamford Bridge will deepen the competition in the Blues’ goalkeeping ranks with Roberto Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen still in contention for a starting role.
Meanwhile, given his wealth of experience in both domestic and Champions League football, his signing could be a big boost for the Blues intent on making a mark in Europe’s elite tier next season.
