Manchester United took their fans through the cringers again in their second preseason friendly match against Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium today, MySportDab reports.
Ruben Amorim’s side fell by a lone to the ASEAN All-Stars in their first friendly and were expected not to go down again against a Hong Kong side far below their sporting pedigree.
It was nearly another disappointing outing against the second Asian opponents. Despite dominating the game from the start, it was still deadlock in Hong Kong’s half for United.
The hosts perfected their game strategy – sitting back to defend while hoping to catch the star-studded side on quick counterattacks.
And behold, it worked out, at least for the first 45 minutes. Brazil-born 34-year-old forward Juninho scored in the 19 minute to give the home side an unlikely lead.
Going down by a lone goal, United then stepped up proceedings to find the equalizer but couldn’t find a breakthrough.
At the break, they trailed by the lone goal in what was disappointing first half for the team.
However, they immediately turned things around in the second half. Five minute after the restart, fast-rising Academy starlet Chido-Obi Martins finally scored the leveler for the visitors, thanks to an assist by Manuel Ugarte.
After the equalizer, Hong Kong tightened their defense and nearly escaped with a draw before Chido-Obi struck again eight minutes from time to bag his brace and turn the game on its head.
After Obi’s second goal, Hong Kong then began to break out of their low-block in search of an equalizer.
However, this led to a further blow as Ayden Heavens scored his first Man United goal in stoppage time to seal a deserved 3-1 comeback win for the Red Devils.
