Arsenal have suffered defeat at home in their 2024-25 Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG, MySportDab reports.
Having edged out the Ligue 1 champions in the league phase of the competition at the same, Mikel Arteta’s side were the overwhelming favourites to ace this tie.
However, they were now coming up against an improved PSG side, who knocked out Liverpool in the last-16 and Aston Villa in the quarter-finals.
Notably, the first 20 minutes of play went for the away side. They started off on the front foot, dominating proceedings and creating more chances.
And just four minutes into proceedings, the impressive early effort paid off. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia found an unmarked Ousmane Dembele close to the penalty, who then crashed a low shot straight at the woodwork before it bounced off into the back of the net.
Despite the early lead, they will still in the ascendancy going forward and were looking set to double it before Arsenal finally found their way back into the game.
From the 20th minute, the Gunners assumed total control of proceedings but struggled to create chances. Hence, they trailed by the lone goal at the break.
The second half began on an equally frantic note with Arsenal dominating proceedings. Just a minute into the restart, Mikel Merino scored a header from Declan Rice’s free-kick to level the tie.
However, after VAR check, the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up. Leandro Trossard also had a chance to level it for the Gunners but had his low shot from the left punched away by Donnaruma for a corner kick.
In the final minutes of the game, PSG substitute Goncalo Ramos came close to doubling the lead for PSG but crashed a shot at the crossbar.
The game ended with Arsenal losing 1-0, with the Gunners now set for a huge task to overturn the result in the second leg in Paris next week.
