Brazil made a huge step towards qualifying for the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic 2-1 away victory over Chile at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Chile, MySportDab reports.

It was a cracker as the two South American giants locked horns in a rollercoaster CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Brazil went into the game at the back of a not-so-stellar run in the competition, having recorded only three wins, a draw, and four defeats in eight matches.

Stucked with 10 points, they needed victory to boast their hopes of qualifying for the competition.

On the other hand, Chile constituted the weeping teams on the table with just a win, two draws and five losses in their eight matches and needed nothing less than a win to boost their chances of qualification.

The die was cast with a lot at stake for the two teams as they set out for the match.

34-year-old Atletico Mineiro forward Eduardo Vargas fired the hosts into the lead just two minutes into the game.

They nearly raced to the finish line at the break with the lead before top European target and 23-year-old Botafogo forward Igor Jesus scored in first-half stoppage time to tie the score at the break.

The game took on a more frantic and dramatic pace in the second half as the two sides pushed hard for the winner.

A series of missed chances by both sides nearly saw the game end in a draw before Brazil stunned the hosts.

A minute before stoppage time, Botafogo forward Luiz Henrique, 23, latched on a crazy assist from Bruno Guimaraes to fire Brazil into the lead.

The late strike saw the visitors complete a stunning comeback to secure all three points and climb up to fourth on the table with 13 points.

They will wrap up action in the break with another World Cup qualifiers clash against Peru on Wednesday, October 16, while Chile travel to take on Colombia on Tuesday, October 15. Watch Video Highlights on YouTube.
