French Ligue 1 giants PSG have made a shock move on Kylian Mbappe following the latter’s groundbreaking switch to Real Madrid, MySportDab reports.
Mbappe turned down a move to Real Madrid in 2021, choosing to pen a new three-year contract with the Parisians with a one-year extension option.
PSG had hoped he would trigger the extension clause on the contract only to meet rejection by the French footballing sensation, who was eyeing a move to Real Madrid.
Mbappe reportedly informed PSG he would not renew his contract – a decision that kept him at odds with the club’s hierarchy, who did not want to lose him on a free transfer.
Reacting to Mbappé’s antics, PSG attempted to forcefully sell the player but met stiff opposition, as the terrific forward refused to enter into negotiations with his suitors.
After a dragging contract standoff which saw the player frozen out of the squad and dropped from the first team, the pair were finally able to reach a middle ground.
He resumed action with the club but did not still renew his contract. Towards the end of the 2023-24 campaign, Mbappe took to social media to announce he was going to leave the club in the summer.
He completed the move to Santiago Bernabeu as the newest Galactico on Monday, June 3, with the LaLiga giants announcing his signing.
Now, reacting to the player’s decision to switch tent, L’Equipe reports PSG have decided to withhold payments to the tune of €80million (£70m) for the player.
There are projections the Parisian’s decision to withhold the payment may pave the way for a fiery legal tussle between the two parties.
