Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has earned a nomination for the prestigious 2023/24 Bundesliga Team of the Season. The league’s official website announced the list of nominees, which includes Boniface, in various categories on Wednesday, MySportDab Reports.
Despite enduring a three-month hiatus due to a groin injury sustained while preparing for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Super Eagles in January, the 23-year-old Nigerian’s stellar performance caught the attention of selectors.
Boniface returned to action for Bayer Leverkusen in April and made a significant impact, contributing 11 goals and nine assists in 18 league matches.
Boniface’s exceptional performance played a crucial role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga triumph, marking their first-ever title win with five games to spare, all while maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the season.
Notably, Boniface’s achievements extend beyond his on-field performance, as he was also honored as the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for four consecutive months between September and December 2023.
Joining Boniface on the nomination list are seven other Leverkusen players, including Granit Xhaka, Jeremy Frimpong, Alejandro Grimaldo, Florian Writz, Jonathan Tah, Exequiel Palacios, and Lukas Hradecky.
The selection process for the Bundesliga’s best XI of the season involves a public vote, which will conclude on April 22.
Fan votes will carry the highest weightage, accounting for 40 percent of the final results, while votes from clubs and experts will each contribute 30 percent, ensuring a fair and representative outcome.
As anticipation builds among football enthusiasts, the race for the Bundesliga Team of the Season promises to be fiercely contested, with Boniface emerging as a strong contender for a coveted spot in the lineup.
