PSG Win 2023/24 Ligue1 Title

PSG have been crowned champions of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season, MySportDab reports.

In what has been an unrivaled dominance of the French elite division since 2012, the Rouge and Bleu raked in their 12th Ligue 1 trophy after close challengers Monaco stumbled to a 3-2 Ligue 1 loss to Lyon on Sunday, April 28.

With three matches left to wrap up the season, the loss ruled out Monaco from the title race with PSG’s 12-point gap on top of the table.

The potential runners-up were given a lifeline to delay PSG’s title celebrations when Le Havre drew 3-3 with the leaders at Parc Des Princes on Saturday.

At Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Monaco flung the chance with the loss to Lyon, wrapping up the race for the French title with three matches to spare.

PSG have now won the French topflight three times in a row on three occasions in the club’s history. The Ligue 1 giants began their quest to dominate the French Championship in 2012, a year after Nasser Al-Khelaifi became the club’s new chairman.

They became the first French club to win the Ligue 1 title four times on the bounce in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Monaco interrupted the serial winning run in 2016 but they returned the next season, winning it three times on a stretch in 2017, 2018, and 2019 before losing the 2020 edition to Lille.

They won it again in the 2020/21 season, and have now won it three times on a stretch again following Monaco’s loss to Lyon on Sunday.

Overall, it is the club’s 50th trophy in its history with the recent breakthroughs contributing to over 50% of the trophy-laden locker room.

PSG’s unrivaled success at the domestic scene has not translated to European success with the club yet to win Europe’s most coveted club trophy – the UEFA Champions League.

They lost the final in 2019 to Bayern Munich but are now in the running to challenge for the trophy again, having reached the last four of the competition.
