Xavi Confirms Pedri, Frenkie de Jong Injury Update

Barcelona are set to sweat with a devastating injury blow involving youngster Pedri and prolific midfielder Frenkie de Jong, MySportDab reports.

The attacking duo had to be prematurely burled off Barcelona LaLiga clash with Athletic Bilbao after they picked up grim injuries.

Pedri was subbed off with an apparent thigh injury just before half-time while Frenkie de Jong suffered an ankle injury in the second half.

An emotional Pedri was devastated due to the injury. He was spotted on the Barcelona bench sobbing and being consoled by his teammates.

Unlike Pedri who trudged off the field, Frenkie de Jong could not walk and had to be assisted off the field by being driven with a cart.

It was obviously not looking good for the pair and Xavi was downbeat when clarifying the condition of the injuries.

Speaking after the match, the soon-to-be-leave manager said the injuries to the two players were not looking good and the team is sad to miss the pair.

However, he added, they may only be out for a few games.

“The injuries to Pedri and De Jong are not looking good,” he told reporters.

“We are sad about these two absences, which will be for quite a few games I imagine.”

From the foregoing, it is pretty evident Barcelona will miss the two players in their next clash against Mallorca at the weekend.

They are also likely to miss both in the crucial Champions round 16 second-leg clash against Napoli in Spain.

Meanwhile, the injury apparently twisted Xavi’s gameplan against Athletic Bilbao as they settled for a 0-0 draw, missing out on a chance to edge close to Real Madrid who also dropped points in the weekend against Valencia.
