Darez Diggs is the younger brother of NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs and Green Bay Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs, a former college cornerback whose own football career never reached the professional level his brothers achieved.
His public profile since 2024 has been defined almost entirely by a criminal case tied to a violent assault caught on elevator surveillance footage in Los Angeles, an incident that a civil lawsuit alleges was carried out to silence a man who had separately accused Stefon Diggs of sexual assault.
This claim remains part of an active, ongoing legal fight involving the whole family.
Darez Diggs Biography
He was born to Aron and Stephanie Diggs and grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. Darez Diggs has an older brother, Stefon, born November 29, 1993; an older brother, Trevon, born September 20, 1998; an older half-brother, Aron Diggs Jr.; and an older half-sister, Porsche Green.
Darez attended Friendship Collegiate Academy, also referred to in some records as Edison-Friendship Academy, in the nation’s capital.
The Diggs family’s story has been shaped significantly by the loss of their father. Aron Diggs died in 2008, when Stefon was around 14 or 15 years old, leaving Stefon to help raise his younger siblings alongside their mother.
Stefon has spoken publicly about his father’s final request to him, telling the Pioneer Press that his dad told him to look after his little brothers, do what he had to do, and keep them on the straight and narrow path.
Stefon went on to bring Darez and Trevon to games and helped introduce them more seriously to football during their teenage years.
Career
Darez Diggs played college football as a cornerback, beginning at Morgan State around 2013 before eventually landing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he played for the Blazers from 2016 to 2018.
After college, he briefly played professionally in the XFL, appearing for the Los Angeles Wildcats during the league’s 2020 season.
He was never drafted by or signed to an NFL roster.
The May 2023 Incidents
The events that led to Darez’s criminal case began at a charity basketball game in Washington, D.C. in May 2023, followed by a group outing to a local club and an after-party at Stefon Diggs’ home in Rockville, Maryland, attended by musician and influencer Christopher Blake Griffith along with other guests.
What happened that night is directly disputed. Griffith later alleged in a civil lawsuit that Stefon gave him chocolate laced with an intoxicant and then sexually assaulted him.
Stefon has denied this entirely, saying through his own legal filings that he went to his bedroom that night and that his assistant asked Griffith to leave, calling Griffith’s account pure fiction.
About a week later, on May 29, 2023, Darez confronted Griffith at Griffith’s own apartment building in downtown Los Angeles, waiting for him on the 16th floor.
When Griffith stepped off the elevator and saw Darez, he tried to re-enter it, but Darez blocked the doors from closing with his hand.
Two other men then entered the elevator and attacked Griffith, kicking him in the face and ripping a bag containing diamonds and other jewelry from his neck, before dragging him into the building’s lobby, all captured on the building’s surveillance cameras.
Griffith later alleged in a civil suit that the attack was orchestrated specifically to silence him about his sexual assault claim against Stefon, and separately alleged in a related filing that Stefon had acted as a civil co-conspirator with his brother in planning the attack, a claim Stefon has denied.
Legal Proceedings
Griffith filed a civil lawsuit against Darez in January 2024 seeking roughly $10 million in damages, including $100,000 for the stolen jewelry and other property, along with compensation for pain, suffering, and emotional distress, and separately sued the apartment complex’s ownership.
On the criminal side, Darez was charged with felony robbery and felony grand theft from a person. He reached a plea deal with prosecutors, pleading no contest to a single felony count of grand theft from a person, with the robbery charge dismissed as part of the agreement.
He was sentenced in a Los Angeles courtroom in late March 2024 to two years of probation and a set number of community service hours, reported as low as 20 and as high as 200 hours depending on the source, and avoided any jail time.
Griffith’s civil lawsuit against Darez and the apartment complex was later dropped after the two sides settled, with the specific terms sealed and not made public.
The broader legal situation did not end there. Griffith’s separate sexual assault claim against Stefon has remained active as an ongoing civil matter.
In October 2025, Stefon filed his own defamation lawsuit against Griffith, seeking unspecified damages and attorneys’ fees, arguing that Griffith fabricated the entire account and that the accusations caused serious and ongoing damage to his reputation.
As of the most recent reporting, both the underlying sexual assault claim against Stefon and Stefon’s own defamation suit against Griffith remain unresolved, meaning the Diggs family’s connection to Griffith continues well beyond Darez’s own closed criminal case.
