The Citizens will pay £22m for the youngster but he will stay with River Plate until December 2024 before joining Manchester City.

Claudio Echeverri will be the second River Plate and Argentine footballer to join Manchester City after Julian Alvarez.

The 17-year-old managed just four appearances for River Plate this season but was phenomenal in the just-concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup for Argentina.

He scored five times in the tournament to finish second on the topscorers’ chart.

Following his remarkable campaign at the tournament, Echeverri was a top transfer target for top European clubs.

Serie A giants Inter Milan, Juventus, and AC Milan were interested in a move for the youngster, including La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, Manchester City beat rival interests to strike a deal with River Plate for the player.

Echeverri will stay at River Plate on loan but will join up with Manchester City in December 2024.
