Harshit Rana has gone from a replacement signing nobody outside Delhi cricket had heard of to a full member of India’s white-ball and Test setup in under four years.

He was born on December 22, 2001, in Ghevra, a village near the Delhi-Haryana border. Harshit Rana began training in cricket at age 10 under his father, Pradeep Rana, a former hammer thrower and weightlifter who served in India’s Central Reserve Police Force.
He studied at Ganga International School in Delhi, where coach Shravan Kumar identified his talent early and gave him his first proper cricket training.
He stands 6 feet 2 inches tall, bats right-handed, and bowls right-arm fast, regularly clocking between 135 and 145 kilometers per hour and having touched 147 in IPL matches.

Career
Harshit Rana came up through Delhi’s age group system before making his List A debut against Meghalaya in the 2022 23 Vijay Hazare Trophy and his first-class debut against Assam that December in the Ranji Trophy, taking four wickets on debut.
He took 21 wickets in just five Ranji Trophy matches that debut season and, in 2023, became the third youngest Delhi player to take six wickets in a single Ranji Trophy innings, finishing with 6 for 54 against Tamil Nadu.
He also showed unexpected batting ability that year in the Duleep Trophy, smashing an unbeaten 122 off 86 balls from the number nine position for North Zone, an innings that included nine sixes.
IPL Career
Kolkata Knight Riders signed Rana ahead of the 2022 IPL season as a replacement for the injured Rasikh Salam, a move made on teammate Nitish Rana’s recommendation, for a base price of 20 lakh rupees.
He made his IPL debut on April 28, 2022, against Delhi Capitals, dismissing Mitchell Marsh in his very first over and finishing with figures of 1 for 24.
He played sparingly over his first two seasons before his breakout in IPL 2024, taking 19 wickets in 13 matches, the joint second-highest total on the KKR roster that year behind Varun Chakravarthy, as Kolkata went on to win the title.
That season also brought controversy when he was banned for one match by the BCCI after sending Mayank Agarwal off with a flying kiss following his dismissal.

His rise into the ODI side ahead of more experienced seamers like Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna was a notable selection call by head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma at the time.
