Andre Onana is set to lose his starting berth to his backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir should he leave for 2023 AFCON, MySportDab reports.

Onana is Manchester United first-choice goalkeeper since he joined the club from Inter Milan as a replacement for David de Gea.

He has been used in all Man United Premier League and Champions League matches with Altay Bayindir making an appearance for United in EFL Cup clash.

MySportDab understand Manchester United will lose Andre Onana as much as 6 weeks as the latter prepares to join Cameroon for 2023

Sources close to the club Erik ten Hag had hoped Andre Onana to continue with Manchester United despite AFCON but it appears the Cameroonian shotstopper is keen on joining his national team for the tournament.

Now, United have only summer signing from Fenerbahce Altay Bayindir as the only goalkeeper option when Andre Onana leaves for AFCON.

Out-of-favor legend David de Gea was recently linked to a return to the Old Trafford club on a short-term deal to stand in for Andre Onana but it appears the Spaniard is off Man United radar as he closes in on a deal with La Liga side Real Betis.

Erik ten Hag reportedly have his concerns for Altay Bayindir despite his admiration for the Turkish shotstopper.

Bayindir is yet to start a top-flight game for Manchester United and has only featured for the club in EFL Cup when the Dutch rotated the squad heavily to avoid player burnout due to a screeching and tight match schedule.

With Andre Onana set to leave for AFCON, Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on giving Bayindir a chance for a first team role.

Sources close to Man United dressing have revealed the Dutch will not hesitate to continue with Bayindir as Man United first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Onana should he impress on his shift.

Onana is also reportedly weary of losing his starting berth to Bayindir and has lauded the young goalie for his competitiveness in Man United training sessions.
