Manchester United loanee to Getafe, Mason Greenwood, is reportedly hopeful of a shock u-turn in his loan deal with Getafe, MySportDab reports.

Greenwood joined Getafe on transfer deadline day from Manchester United following his return from 18 months exile.

Manchester United initially offered Mason Greenwood to Lazio but were turned down before they were able to broker a deal with Getafe at the death.

Before the loan decision, United had conducted an internal investigation into sexual assault allegations linked to the player and came out with the conclusion that he was innocent.

However, the club had to succumb to pressure by sections of United fanbase not to bring back Mason Greenwood to Manchester United squad.

United declared Greenwood innocent but maintained they will help him restart his career away from Old Trafford

The loan deal to Getafe followed the club’s decision to help him resettle for a career restart.

United agreed to foot a significant proportion of Mason Greenwood’s wages and also secured him a comfortable apartment in Spain to help him restart his career but only wanted a temporary loan deal.

A buyout clause was ruled out as Manchester United were hopeful of having the youngster back to Old Trafford when the loan deal expire in 2024.

Now, according to report from The Sun, Mason Greenwood is himself considering making his Getafe move permanent.

Greenwood is said to be loving life at the Madrid-based club and will want a U-turn in the loan agreement that would enable him continue his career in Laliga beyond 2024.

He was greeted to a rapturous welcome by Getafe fans and have received a great support and backing of the club despite some foul chants by some Spanish football fans hence his decision to stay put with the club beyond 2024.

However, it is still unclear whether Manchester United will accede to such demand or maintain their stand on a ‘no buyout’ agreement after the loan tenure.

Greenwood scored his first goal for Getafe on Sunday, October 8, 2023 against Celta Vigo before October international break.
