Lionel Messi have been announced as the winner of the Ballon d’or award for the year 2023, MySportDab reports.
The winner was announce today by the organizers during a huge gala of celebration which is still going down right now.
Lionel Messi beat the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to the award following his contribution for club and country.
The Argentine International delivered the World Cup for his country during the tournament last year in Qatar 2022.
It was the first for the Barcelona legend who currently play for Inter Miami in the United States League MLS.
Lionel Messi is now the record owner making it his 8th Ballon d’Or award since making his professional debut as a player.
The only name who come close is Cristiano Ronaldo who have five Ballon d’or to his name, but he wasn’t nominated for this year award.
Meanwhile, the winner of the 2023 Award was already made known weeks ago in what so many fans were not pleased to see happen.

There have been debate on who to win the award which many saw Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as the best option to have won.
The case isn’t so as Lionel Messi makes it his 8th Ballon d’or which is thanks to his performance as the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
He wasn’t able to do much at Paris Saint Germain where he was playing during the last two seasons of his career after leaving Barcelona for free.
Karim Benzema was also at his best but was cut off from seeing more playing time at the World Cup due to injury which killed off his chances of reclaiming the award.
Lionel Messi has now been awarded the winner of the Ballon d’Or 2023 beating competition from Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and others who made the top five.
