Chelsea have activated the clause of Ian Maatsen contract with the club today, MySportDab reports.

The Premier League side were expected to sign a new deal that would extend their player contract for a long term.

Ian Maatsen however failed to sign a new deal that many expected to keep him with the club for a lengthy period.

Talks were said to have collapsed with the player almost making a summer move that was later called off.

An agreement between the club and player was to make sure he sign a new deal and go out on another loan move.

Things haven’t done the way Chelsea wanted it as they still know the value of the player who they want to keep further.

His late move was stopped and his playing time with Chelsea haven’t been going well despite several promises.

Meanwhile things have hit a new end between the club and player today which could mean something productive for both parties.

According to report reaching us from Fabrizio Romano, he confirmed an agreement to activate Ian Maatsen clause of extension have been completed.

Here Is What Was Said:

“Chelsea have activated a clause into Ian Maatsen’s contract to extend his deal until June 2025.

“Chelsea wanted to avoid free exit for the fullback as Nizaar Kinsella reported.

“Chelsea will try to get longer deal sealed in the next months or he could be sold in 2024.

The Blues will be working towards something in due time with them hoping for a change with their talks.

Meanwhile, if nothing fail to happen they might be forced into selling in the summer of 2024 instead of losing him for free the following year.

Ian Maatsen new clause activation will see his contract now coming to an end in 2025 after an agreement was reach by both Chelsea and the player.
