He is R. Brian Timmons, Global Head of Complex Litigation at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, the largest litigation-only law firm in the world, and Chair of its Private Investment Fund Litigation practice.
He is also the former husband of Maureen Brady, sister of NFL legend Tom Brady, and the father of Maya Brady. This UCLA record-setter became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 Athletes Unlimited Softball League expansion draft.

Brian Timmons Biography
He was born and raised in rural Idaho and grew up as a first-generation college student, with no lawyers anywhere in his family.
Brian Timmons attended Duke University on a football scholarship, competing as a Division I athlete while also proving himself academically and graduating in the top 2 percent of his class.
From Duke, he moved into graduate study in finance and economics at the London School of Economics, worked as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard College, and then graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1991, where he served as Managing Editor of a scholarly law journal.
He has said publicly that he once considered a very different path, weighing a Ph.D. in econometrics before deciding that law offered something a purely quantitative career could not.
In a 2023 interview with Lawdragon’s Leading Litigator Limelight series, he described being drawn to the personal, human side of legal work, saying the appeal of helping people won out over his instinct toward math and science.
He has been published in The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek and currently serves on the Harvard Law School Leadership Council.
Career
Brian Timmons did not go straight from Harvard Law School to Quinn Emanuel. He first spent time in the federal indigent defense panel program, then became a partner at Latham & Watkins, one of the largest law firms in the world.
Along the way, he also took a brief detour outside the law entirely, serving as a tech company CEO before returning to litigation and joining Quinn Emanuel in 2004.
Two decades later, he runs one of the firm’s most consequential practice groups. As Global Head of Complex Litigation, Timmons is a first-chair trial lawyer who has tried numerous cases to verdict across California, Delaware, and New York and has handled arbitrations and legal proceedings in Hong Kong, Singapore, South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Cayman Islands.
As Chair of the Private Investment Fund Litigation practice, he represents private equity firms, hedge funds, venture capital firms, and sovereign wealth funds, along with corporations, boards of directors, financial institutions, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals in disputes the firm itself describes as “bet-the-company” litigation.
His case history includes representing BitGo in its lawsuit against Galaxy Digital over a collapsed $1.2 billion cryptocurrency merger.
This dispute played out publicly through Delaware’s Court of Chancery and drew repeated coverage from Law360 between 2022 and 2025.
More recently, he has been quoted discussing how litigation tied to smoke-damaged homes from the Los Angeles County wildfires could reshape the fire insurance industry, and he has represented clients in disputes ranging from alleged corporate embezzlement to complex fund-adviser matters. The recognition has followed the casework.
Timmons has been named a Litigator of the Year by the American Institute of Trial Lawyers, was elected to the Irish Legal 100, has appeared on the Lawdragon 500 list of leading litigators multiple times, including in 2025 and 2026, was named one of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers in 2024, and has been listed as a Southern California Super Lawyer every year since 2006.
Maya Brady’s Father
Brian Timmons married Maureen Brady, the eldest of Tom Brady’s three sisters and a decorated softball player in her own right. Maureen went 116–9 as a high school pitcher at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, California, throwing 29 no-hitters and 14 perfect games before becoming an All-American at Fresno State, where she twice led the Bulldogs to the Women’s College World Series.
Together, Timmons and Brady had two daughters: Maya Ann Brady-Timmons, born June 1, 2001, in San Mateo, and a younger daughter, Hannah Brady-Timmons, who has gone on to compete in college volleyball.
The marriage ended on August 7, 2010, when Maya was nine years old. Neither parent has ever publicly detailed what led to the split.
Maureen took on primary parenting duties afterward, later working as a nurse and softball instructor in Bakersfield, California, while raising both daughters largely on her own.
Some outlets have reported that Timmons began a relationship with Jennifer Litz Prado around 2014, a claim that surfaced again when Prado posted a photo with Timmons on Instagram in 2020. However, neither has confirmed the current status of that relationship in the years since.
Maya Brady’s Rise
Maya Brady grew up in the Thousand Oaks area of California and starred at Oaks Christian School, where she hit .558 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs as a senior, before committing to UCLA.
Over four seasons with the Bruins from 2020 to 2024, she became one of the most productive hitters in program history, finishing second on UCLA’s career lists in home runs with 71 and RBIs with 246, while winning Pac-12 Player of the Year honors twice and earning three first-team All-American selections.
She turned professional in January 2025, agreeing to join the newly formed Athletes Unlimited Softball League as a two-time first-team All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year who ranked second all-time in home runs at UCLA, and was drafted by the Talons.
A hamstring injury suffered while playing in Japan delayed her debut, but she returned in time to help the Talons capture the league’s first championship.
That December, the expansion Oklahoma City Spark made her the No. 1 overall pick in the AUSL expansion draft. The bet paid off fast.
In 2026, her first full season with the Spark, Brady set a league single-season record with 11 home runs while leading the AUSL in runs scored and slugging percentage, putting her in the conversation for the league’s first Triple Crown.
She has become a fixture for Team USA as well, most recently earning tournament MVP honors at the 2026 USA Softball International Cup after hitting .538 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
Her official AUSL biography lists her family lineage plainly, naming her as the daughter of Brian Timmons and Maureen Brady, with an uncle in seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and another uncle in two-time World Series champion Kevin Youkilis.
